It doesn’t get more American than this. The US election results are trickling in and depending on your preference you could be seeing red, or blue.
There is food, drink and fun to be had. The American Consulate has pulled out the stops so Kiwis can join in their party.
In a room full of Obama supporters university student Stefan Sunde and National Party official Josh Beddle stand out – they are hoping Romney will win.
“Obama is a reluctant leader as far as trade is concerned. If Romney comes in, New Zealand would benefit a lot trade-wise,” says Beddle.
Beddle is proudly donning his Romney Ryan t-shirt, but four years ago he was a democrat supporter, backing Hillary Clinton for her moderate foreign policy.
“I switched allegiances because Obama is a better leader,” he says.
Shane Moodie is a political campaigner and is a “hardcore” Obama supporter.
He says Republicans have “boiled religion down to abortion and women marketed the hell out of it”.
According to him Republicans have played on people’s fear.
Moodie says Romney is the most stage-managed US presidential candidate ever.
