Honorary research fellow in political studies Joe Atkinson says nothing much would change in New Zealand if Obama was re-elected as president.
“Our Government has a good relationship with the American Government and it’s getting warmer.”
Atkinson says he would be concerned particularly in terms of foreign affairs if Romney won. “He sounds more belligerent than we’re comfortable with towards Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”
It is unknown how experienced Romney is in foreign affairs says Atkinson. “He tripped up in the campaign.”
Financially it is doubtful an Obama victory will make much difference. Romney might lead a temporary build in Dow Jones.
On the battleground states Atkinson says the ones with the most votes are currently too close to call.
“Ohio and Florida are very important in the race.”
“If Ohio and Florida go to Obama and he gets Wisconsin he’s got it won.” says Atkinson.
