Battlegrounds to decide

Florida, a battleground state, will be very important for the outcome of the US election, say many people at Decision 2012 in Auckland.

Kera Morris says it is close at the moment ultimately Obama will win. “The large city centres haven’t been counted yet.”

Morris also says it will come down to Ohio as it have every time in the past. “Obama will continue to poll high. I don’t think people are ready to give him up yet.”

Auckland University PhD student Paul Kramer, a New York voter, says it is hard to tell at the moment which way Florida will go but he thinks it will be blue.

“[Florida] always seems to be important. It’s a weird mash-up of a liberal body of ex-New Yorkers with a southern mentality.”

Levi Joule, of Young Labour, says Florida is pretty important but he believes Ohio will be more crucial.

“Obama could lose Florida and still win . . . Obama will carry Florida.”

Joule says a swing state Obama could lose would be Virginia.
