“Generally speaking, the best people nowadays go into journalism, the second best into business, the rubbish into politics and the shits into law.” – Auberon Waugh.

Welcome to Te Waha Nui – the online sister publication to AUT University’s celebrated student-driven training newspaper. Both here and in our award-winning newspaper, you’ll find the work of journalism students on both the Bachelor of Communication Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies programmes.

CityBeat – Auckland – featuring a mix of reportage and blogging – is our section for news about life in Auckland. Also contributing to CityBeat are the students on the AUT University New Media Journalism course.

The website, built using WordPress software to allow multiple contributors, was updated, redeveloped and relaunched by postgraduate students in August 2011. This process was led by international student Alexander Winkler. The new site provides much more multimedia capability, publishing work from a wider range of our students. It now makes much better connections through social media and with other AUT publications. This site is under ongoing development by postgraduate students.
